Separate total and composition
Write four as the total and three adults plus one child as the composition. Both are true, but they answer slightly different questions. Decide which information the fictional listener has requested.
Practise the total reading
Use the conventional reading for four people. Ask Mocchi about unfamiliar counters instead of applying one reading mechanically to every number.
| Japanese | Romaji | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 四人です。 | Yonin desu. | There are four of us. |
Add the breakdown
Make the adult and child counts explicit. The two categories sum to the total, so the information is internally consistent.
| Japanese | Romaji | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 大人三人と子ども一人です。 | Otona sannin to kodomo hitori desu. | Three adults and one child. |
Repair a mistaken repetition
If the listener says four adults, correct the category politely. Do not accept the repeated total while overlooking the wrong composition.

| Japanese | Romaji | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 大人は三人です。 | Otona wa sannin desu. | There are three adults. |
Try a changed group
Use two adults and two children for a new attempt. A suitable AI Sensei conversation can ask the same questions in a different order. Listen for which detail is requested before giving the prepared answer.
Review the counter that needed help
Make a focused card or short quiz through Mocchi if a reading repeatedly causes difficulty. Then return to a complete exchange. For repeated conversation, check current speaking time and feature access rather than assume unlimited practice on every plan.
