Keep the two possible dates visible
Write the eighth and fifteenth as alternatives. The point is not to guess the speaker’s intention from your own calendar habit. Identify the ambiguity before it becomes a missed arrangement.
Ask which calendar date is intended
Use a short question with the date word. Mocchi can help practise the reading if it is unfamiliar. Do not ask a broad question about the entire plan when only the date is unclear.
| Japanese | Romaji | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| その金曜日は何日ですか。 | Sono kin’yōbi wa nannichi desu ka. | Which date is that Friday? |
Read the date accurately
The first answer names the fifteenth. Check the day-of-month reading separately if necessary; a date word is a useful small retrieval target.
| Japanese | Romaji | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 十五日です。 | Jūgonichi desu. | It is the fifteenth. |
Confirm the resolved arrangement
Your response should repeat the date actually supplied. This gives the other speaker a final chance to catch a misunderstanding.

| Japanese | Romaji | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 十五日の金曜日ですね。 | Jūgonichi no kin’yōbi desu ne. | Friday the fifteenth, then. |
Change the answer and listen again
In a suitable AI Sensei exchange, make the eighth correct instead. The successful answer changes. If you keep saying the fifteenth, cover the old notes and focus on the spoken reply before answering.
Use the method beyond Friday
Try an ambiguous reference such as this weekend in another fictional arrangement. Ask for the specific date when needed. Mocchi can prepare date readings and AI Sensei adds listening variation; compare current plan access for ongoing practice.
