These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the unihongo.com website, the Unihongo mobile applications and related services (together, the "Service"), operated by unihongo.com ("Unihongo", "we", "us" or "our").

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Privacy Policy

The Service

Unihongo is a Japanese learning service. It includes AI-powered speaking practice, pronunciation feedback, lessons, flashcards, games and articles.

We keep improving the Service, so features may be added, changed or removed. Some features may be limited, for example by a daily usage allowance.

Eligibility and Accounts

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian.

• Provide accurate information when you create an account, and keep it up to date.
• Keep your password secret. You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
• Contact us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission.

You can close your account at any time by contacting us.

AI Features

Parts of the Service, including the AI tutor, conversation practice, feedback and scoring, are generated by artificial intelligence.

AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete or unsuitable for your situation. Treat it as a study aid, not as professional advice, a certified assessment of your language level, or a guarantee of any exam result.

To provide these features, what you say or type during practice is processed by us and by service providers acting on our behalf. Please do not share sensitive personal information in practice conversations.

Acceptable Use

When you use the Service, you agree not to:

• break any law or infringe anyone else's rights;
• harass, threaten or abuse others, or submit content that is hateful, sexually explicit or violent;
• copy, scrape, resell or redistribute the Service or its content, except as these Terms allow;
• bypass usage limits, access controls or security measures, or disrupt the Service;
• use the Service to build or train a competing product or AI model.

Your Content

You keep ownership of what you submit to the Service, such as voice recordings, messages and answers ("Your Content").

You give us permission to store, process and display Your Content only as needed to operate, maintain and improve the Service.

Our Content

The Service, including its software, lessons, text, audio, images, characters and the Unihongo name and logo, belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial learning.

Suspension and Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time.

We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these Terms, if the law requires it, or if your use puts the Service or other users at risk. Where reasonable, we will warn you first.

Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties, express or implied, including that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose.

We do not promise any particular learning outcome, exam score or level of fluency.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data, profits or opportunities, arising from your use of the Service.

Nothing in these Terms limits any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date above, and for significant changes we will give notice through the Service or by email.

If you keep using the Service after the changes take effect, you accept the updated Terms.

General

If any part of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we do not enforce a part of these Terms, that does not waive our right to do so later.

These Terms are written in English. Translations are provided for convenience; if a translation differs from the English version, the English version prevails.
